A peep into the new opera
Viva's Holiday

True story. Portland stripper goes home for the holidays. Can the family keep her secret from dad — the minister?

Drawn from Magic Gardens, the memoirs of Portland’s celebrated entertainer and author Viva Las Vegas, this one-act opera by composer Christopher Corbell explores topics of sex work, family, and self-realization.

We'll get into metaphorical bed with both artists.

Stripper, Author, Performer, Provocateuse

Viva is a Portland legend. Her book Magic Gardens is acclaimed by the likes of Gus Van Sant ("Pure Viva"), Nick Tosches, Katherine Dunn, and Andrei Codrescu ("as affecting as Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer").

Renegade Composer

★  Christopher Corbell  ★

Frustrated by the straight trippin' "serious music" world, the longtime Oregon musician, writer, bandleader, and composer is on a mission to create new, relevant opera and art-song. We'll also get a taste of his solid rockabilly chops!

★  The Dukes of Heidegger  ★

What's a good ol' boy to do when Warner Bros. pulls his line of Confederate Flag-decorated toy cars? It's an existential dilemma of screwball proportions!

★  Caitlin Weierhauser  ★

Kicking off the evening, Caitlin is a member of Lez Stand Up, has performed on All Jane No Dick Comedy Festival, Grrrl Front, Not Enough! Fest, won The Moth StorySLAM in December, and is on the AfterEllen list of "40 Hot Queer Ladies in Comedy."

Mary's Club owner reveals all

Mary's Club owner Vicki Keller regales us with stories about running "Portland's Oldest Topless," launched by her dad back in 1965. A slice of true Portland!

Leo Daedalus wears many hats and probably can't be stopped. This is the guy to blame when the wheels come off the show.
